On parole, Dera chief cuts cake with sword, says ‘should cut five’ | India News – Times of India

CHANDIGARH/MEERUT: Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, who is out on a 40-day parole from Sunaria Jail in Haryana’s Rohtak district, was seen celebrating by cutting a giant cake with a sword in a video that has gone viral on social media. In the purported clip, he can be heard saying, “I should cut at least five cakes as I got a chance to celebrate after a five-year gap.”
Ram Rahim, serving a 20-year jail term for rape and murder, arrived at his ashram in Baghpat on Saturday — the premises quickly turning into some sort of a fortress — where he has been holding online “satsang” sessions attended among others by several BJP functionaries from Haryana, including MPs and MLAs.
Haryana CM M L Khattar’s political adviser Krishan Bedi and Rajya Sabha MP Krishan Lal Panwar visited Sirsa on Monday and joined the Dera chief’s satsang being telecast from his Baghpat ashram. With folded hands, the duo sought his “blessings” for a state-level event being organised in Narwana on February 3, and bowed to him while Ram Rahim addressed them as “beta”.
Both Bedi and Panwar started their interaction with Ram Rahim by doing “charan vandana” (puja at the feet) of the Dera chief, who is serving multiple jail terms for raping two of his female disciples in his ashram in Sirsa and killing journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati. This is his third parole in the last seven months. Prior to that, he was released on 21 days of furlough in February last year.
Criticising the Haryana CM’s adviser and the BJP RS MP for attending Ram Rahim’s online satsang, Delhi Commission for Women chairperson Swati Maliwal said: “The Haryana government cannot just wash its hands of this issue. It needs to clarify whether it will support a rapist or the women of this country.” She tweeted: “Khattarji! See, how the rapist you have released in society is slapping the system. In the old times, the brave used swords to protect the weak and today a rapist is celebrating with it while the government is lying at his feet.”
Interacting with the controversial preacher, the Rajya Sabha MP thanked him for supporting the Prime Minister’s sanitation drive. Interestingly, Ram Rahim also expressed gratitude to these two government representatives for the “full support” of the government to him.
Haryana BJP functionary Gobind Kanda, who had unsuccessfully contested the Ellenabad bypoll in 2021 against INLD’s Abhay Singh Chautala, also took part in the satsang. “You have been doing great social service. We hope all your problems come to an end early so that we can see you in Sirsa,” said Kanda, who is brother of Sirsa MLA Gopal Kanda.
