Now, Uddhav Thackeray, Sharad Pawar train guns on Maharashtra governor BS Koshyari , want him out | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: The NCP and Shiv Sena (UBT) on Thursday intensified their attack against governor B S Koshyari over his controversial comments on Chhatrapati Shivaji, with Sharad Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray demanding he be recalled by the Centre.
Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, however, said there was an attempt to give a political colour to the governor’s statement, and CM Eknath Shinde alleged the opposition was making such statements because the ground was slipping from under their feet.
Pawar alleged the governor had “crossed all limits”. “The President and Prime Minister must take a decision onpeople holding constitutional posts who make irresponsible and uncalled-for statements. They must ensure people like Koshyari are not given gubernatorial assignments,” Pawar told mediapersons after a meeting of NCP’s crore group.
Governor has crossed all limits, says Pawar
Hitting out at governor B S Koshyari, Uddhav Thackeray said on Thursday, “This parcel (governor) from Amazon should go back. Or else it should be sent back. ” He threatened a protest, saying “those who love Maharashtra should come together to demand the governor’s recall. We will consider a peaceful statewide bandh or morcha to press for our demand. ” Uddhav added, “This sample should be sent back or if there is any good old age home, he should be sent there. ”
Thackeray suggested there were other forces behind Koshyari’s statement. “We need to find out who is behind this decaying brain,” he said. He questioned the Centre’s choice of governors and said the post needed to be occupied by a neutral person. “Those for whom old-age homes do not have space are sent as governors,” he claimed.
At the convocation ceremony of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University on November 19 in Aurangabad, Koshyari had said that when he was a student, Subhas Chandra Bose, Jawaharlal Nehru and Shivaji Maharaj were icons of students, but now Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar and Nitin Gadkari were the new icons. Inciden-tally, when Koshyari made his remarks, both Sharad Pawar and Nitin Gadkari were present on the dais. Koshyari conferred an honorary D. Litt on Pawar as well as Gadkari.
Thursday’s statement was the first made by Pawar after that function. Leader of opposition Ajit Pawar had earlier demanded the governor’s recall. Sharad Pawar said Koshyari appeared to be on a mission to make controversial statements and create misunderstanding. “In the past too, he had made critical statements against Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, Savitribai Phule and Shivaji Maharaj. Unfortunately such irresponsible persons have beensent to the state, that too as constitutional head. The governor is an institution whose prestige is of importance. In view of this, no one spoke against Koshyari, but now in our view, the governor has crossed all limits and must be recalled,” he said.
Thackeray said Koshyari had been repeatedly insulting Maharashtra by targeting the Marathi manoos, Savitribai Phule and now Shivaji. He said CM Shinde did not have the guts to quit despite such comments. “He has stuck to his chair because he is obliged to leaders in Delhi. Are these ideals of Balasaheb Thackeray?” he asked.
Asked about Rahul Gand-hi’s remarks on Savarkar, Thackeray said, “Those who protested strongly on that issue, why did they not do the same on the Shivaji issue?”
Fadnavis dismissed Uddhav’s comments. “Once Sharad Pawar spoke on this issue, we knew Thackeray would have to say something,” he said. “Shivaji is an icon of the country. No one should do politics in his name,” he said. CM Shinde said, “Our government has done such good work that they feel the ground slipping from under their feet, which is why they are making such statements. Those who do not follow Balasaheb Thackeray’s ideals should not dictate to us. ”
