At least 30 people have reportedly been injured as the tanker rammed into several vehicles, resulting in a 48 vehicle pile-up. However, witnesses claim that over 100 vehicles were piled up in the accident on the highway. Pune Fire Brigade and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) reached the spot, and injured people were taken to a nearby hospital.
In many cases, one can avoid being a part of such a pile-up by following a few simple steps. First and foremost, following all traffic rules is absolutely necessary at all times. If one restricts the speed of their vehicle as per the indicated speed limit of the particular road, braking in an unwanted situation becomes easier as the braking distance is reduced on lower speeds.

Moreover, one should also maintain a safe distance with the vehicle in front. In a situation where the vehicle at the front brakes suddenly, you can safely maneuver the vehicle to avoid a collision if you maintain appropriate distance. Even if maneuvering away isn’t an option, a healthy gap with the vehicle in front will ensure you don’t barge into them if you brake in time.
This brings us to another important factor to keep in mind while driving. Vehicles these days are packed up to the brim with features like large touchscreens, connected tech and what not. It might be tempting to use your gadget(s), or check your phone to stay while driving, but it goes without saying, this should be strictly avoided. For example, if you want to set navigation in your car, you could always find a safe spot on the side of the road to park it to use the infotainment system. It is important to focus on the road ahead of you and stay attentive at all times.
