Owning cattle brings its share of responsibility. Unfortunately, some people are unwilling to take the responsibility of taking care of them. The cattle are let loose causing scare and damage. The verdict will hopefully make others act more responsibly with their cattle.

Desai was charged under IPC Sections 308, 289, 186 and 506(2), under the Gujarat Police Act and under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. The prosecution examined six witnesses before the trial court. Two panch witnesses did not support the prosecution’s case because they belonged to Desai’s community, the court noted.
However, members of the raiding party testified against Desai. As nobody was injured by Desai’s cattle straying onto the road, the court said IPC Sec 308 would not apply. However, he was found guilty of letting his animals loose on the roads without making proper arrangements and putting people’s lives in danger.
