Mahindra Thar 5-door spotted with a sunroof! Launch next year – Times of India

It’s no secret that Mahindra is working on introducing a more-practical 5-door version of the Thar in the Indian market, with the vehicle being spotted testing tons of time. However, the latest 5-door Thar prototype, for the first time, has hinted at the fact that the lifestyle SUV could possibly be offered with a sunroof!
Electric sunroofs have become extremely common on higher-end variants of mass-market vehicles, however, the Mahindra Thar is so far not offered with one. The test mule of the 5-door Mahindra Thar appears to have a hard top with shut lines on the top, suggesting that it might actually get an optional sunroof.

The sunroof is not expected to be offered with the Thar 5-door as standard. Instead, it could be reserved for the higher trim(s). Unlike the convertible soft top option on the 3-door Thar, the 5-door version is expected to be offered with a hard top as standard. That said, the new 5-door Thar will obviously be positioned above the 3-door version which is currently priced from Rs 13.59 lakh to Rs 16.29 lakh (ex-showroom).
No changes are expected to be made to either of the powertrains currently offered with the SUV. It gets a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 150 PS of max power and 300 Nm of peak torque (320 Nm with AT), and a 2.2-litre diesel engine that belts out 130 PS power and 300 Nm torque. Both engines will likely be offered with the 6-speed MT, as well as the optional 6-speed AT.
The 5-door Mahindra Thar will directly rival the upcoming 5-door Force Gurkha, which is expected to be launched in the country soon. The two SUVs will also be joined by the 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny, which could make its debut at the 2023 Auto Expo in January next year.
