In next 10 years, NE will be India’s engine of growth: Assam CM Himanta | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: In next 10 years, a lot of India’s security concerns will be addressed and the northeast will be the engine of growth for India, said Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma during his conversation at the Times Now Summit 2022 on Thursday.

Speaking about the efforts of the Centre for “mainstreaming of the northeast,” Sarma said: “The concerted effort of the Modi government towards development of the north-east region is a gigantic effort. In 1962 Chinese entered India. India couldn’t respond because India doesn’t have a good road to the frontier. But today there is a highway. Second highway is under construction. All the north-eastern states are connected with Rajdhani Express, all states have one or more airports. All these has happened in eight years and if you continue this flow in the next 10 years the northeast will be completely mainstreamed and a lot of India’s security concerns will be addressed.”

Speaking on the theme India’s northeast opportunity, Sarma said ,“Guwahati airport terminal is on, railway track to Tawang is on. One month ago Nitin Gadkari announced Rs 55,000 crore of road projects. So the region is going in the right direction and within 10 years the northeast will be the engine of growth for the entire country,” added Sarma.
“Congress never tried to solve the border disputes. There was a time till 2014 every state of northeast was under the Congress regime. But there was no effort. Now half of the dispute with Meghalaya has been settled.

But next year the rest will be resolved. With Arunachal all disputes will be resolved within four to five months. These disputes have been lingering since 1972. When you create states you should have properly delineated the boundaries. But Congress did not and left all of us to fight among ourselves. This is a legacy issue but we will resolve it. ”
