Erode: Man loses tongue to snake bite after astrologer’s advice | Erode News – Times of India

ERODE : This is a story of a dream that came true. Raja (name changed), 54, of Gobichettipalayam, often dreamed of being bitten by a snake.
Benighted Raja approached an astrologer to get rid of his nightmare. Guess what he got? The astrologer gave him a bit of tongue-incheek advice to perform a puja of a snake. The astrologer also directed Raja to a temple where there is a snake burrow.
The temple priest added more sanctity to the advice by asking Raja to show his tongue to the snake after the puja.
As advised, Raja stuck his tongue out in front of a Rus-sell’s Viper. The poisonous snake bit Raja’s tongue in a jiffy. Raja swooned on the floor. K Suresh, a relative of Raja, and his family took him to a hospital, where his tongue was amputated.
Chief doctor of the Erode Manian Medical Centre Dr S Senthil Kumaran said that the patient was admitted to the hospital on November 18 with heavy bleeding from his mouth. “The tongue tissues were affected due to the snake’s venom. We have to amputate the tongue to save the patient,” he said. “We have to struggle for four days to save Raja’s life even after amputating his tongue,” Dr Senthil Kumaran said.
