CBI files chargesheet in Sonali Phogat murder case | Goa News – Times of India

PANAJI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday filed a chargesheet in connection with Haryana BJP leader and TikTok star Sonali Phogat murder case and charged Sudhir Sangvan and Sukhwinder Singh, who had accompanied her to Goa, of her murder.
The chargesheet has been filed before judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) in Mapusa.
The bureau interrogated Sangvan and Sukhwinder Singh — who were arrested in the case — in Colvale jail.
The CBI has examined the document submitted by Goa police, which runs into over 500 pages. It also recorded the statements of witnesses.
The bureau also recreated the crime scene at Curlie’s, where Phogat was allegedly given drugs, and the Leoney Grand Resort, Vagator, where the TikTok star stayed with her aides.
The state government had transferred the Phogat murder case to CBI following a request from Haryana chief minister and a demand from the khap mahapanchayat.
Goa Police, which had been investigating the murder case since her death on August 23, did not find any clinching evidence or arrive at any motive for her ‘murder’.
Initially, Goa Police registered the case as an unnatural death, but after the postmortem report, filed a case of murder.
Phogat had arrived in Goa on August 22 with Sangvan and Singh. They had allegedly purchased a narcotic substance at the hotel and consumed it before they went to Curlie’s to party.
At Curlie’s, Phogat started feeling uneasy; later, she returned to the hotel along with the accused.
Initially, she was reluctant to go to the hospital, but as her health condition started deteriorating, she was shifted to a private hospital, where she was declared brought dead.
