Attempt made to suppress Netaji’s contribution in freedom struggle; his memorial to infuse feelings of patriotism: PM Modi

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi participates in a video conferencing ceremony to name the Andaman and Nicobar Islands’ 21 largest unnamed islands. Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveils the model of the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Memorial to be built on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Dweep. Subedar Major Sanjay Kumar and Subedar Major Yogendra Singh Yadav are among the 21 Param Veer Chakra awardees who have had their islands named after them (Retd).

The islands are named after 21 Param Veer Chakra awardees, including Naib Subedar Bana Singh, Captain Vikram Batra, and Lt Manoj Kumar Pandey. Major Somnath Sharma, Subedar and Hony Captain (then Lance Naik) Karam Singh, 2nd Lt. Rama Raghoba Rane, and Nayak Jadunath Singh are among the 21 Param Veer Chakra honorees.

“Veer Savarkar and many other heroes who fought for the country were incarcerated in this land of the Andamans. When I visited Port Blair 4-5 years ago, I dedicated Indian names to the 3 main islands there. This land of Andaman is the land where the tricolour was hoisted for the first time. Where the government of independent India was formed for the first time. Today is the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Bose. The country celebrates this day as Parakram Diwas,” says PM Modi.

“India First” was the only resolution for all 21 Paramveers; today in the naming of these islands, their resolution has become immortal forever. The potential of Andamans is huge. In the past 8 years, the country has made continuous efforts in this direction.

“Attempt was made to suppress Netaji’s contribution towards freedom struggle, but entire nation remembering him today.  There were demands to make public secret files on Netaji, we have done that,” says PM Narendra Modi.

“Netaji’s memorial in Andaman and Nicobar Islands will infuse feelings of patriotism in hearts of people. People now visiting Andamans to learn our history (of freedom struggle). Entire country, right from Delhi and Bengal to Andaman and Nicobar Islands, paying tribute to Netaji, preserving heritage associated with him,” he added.

“All the decisions taken under the strong leadership of PM Modi certainly acknowledge and appreciate the connect, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands have with the Independence Movement of India,” says Union Minister Amit Shah.

Today, this initiative of PM Modi, under which 21 big islands of Andaman-Nicobar Islands have been associated with names of our Paramveer Chakra winners & effort to perpetuate their memory as long as this earth lasts, will increase the enthusiasm of the army,” he added.
