Army havildar held over ISF clash with cops | India News – Times of India

KOLKTA: A 35-year-old working in the Territorial Army’s engineering regiment was arrested on Tuesday over clashes with cops during Indian Secular Front’s (ISF) rally on Saturday after video grabs showed him brandishing a firearm during the mayhem.
Havildar Syed Alamgir Hossain, a Burdwan native, is posted in Vadodara but on leave now. “Havildar Syed Alamgir Hossain was arrested from Murshidabad early Tuesday,” joint CP (crime) Murlidhar Sharma said.
The ISF has a lone MLA in Bengal, Naushad Siddique, who has been arrested earlier over the arson that left scores of cops injured. The ISF has been protesting attacks in Siddique’s Bhangar constituency by activists of CM Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamul. Kolkata police have denied ISF permission for a protest rally on Wednesday but party sources said the event would be held “as scheduled”. A PIL has been filed in the HC against alleged police atrocities on ISF supporters. “The police are partisan,” said CPM’s Sujan Chakraborty.
